It’s Iowa State Fair time again and once again G&L Clothing is present in the Varied Industries building. We will mostly be selling Farm Boy, Farm Girl, and Farmall/IH Shirts and Hats again this year so stop by and checkout the new styles.

Everyone knows about food on a stick, if you don’t know then check out this ridiculous list of food on a stick at this years fair at the Iowa State Fair page. Every year we look forward to what kind of chocolate covered, cake battered, fried goodness they will come up to throw on a stick. I'm gonig to admit, #2 even surprised me. I wasn't shocked in the slightest to see the Carhartt Jacket, Carhartt Hat and Dickies Hoodie in the top 5 as they are all staple items for the winter. The Levis Bootcut Jean however was surprising, this isn't what you would think of as a "holiday" or "winter" item yet it was our 2nd best seller during the holiday season last year. The Levis 517 Rigid Jean is incredibly durable. made from a heavyweight 14.75 oz denim this is the perfect jean for work and play.

The "Need to Know" on Carhartt Twill Workwear

Carhartt is constantly finding ways to improve their well-established workwear line and their latest endeavor has taken them into the world of Twill. As of summer 2010 Carhartt is now supplying G&L Clothing with Twill Work Pants as well as Twill Long Sleeve and Short Sleeve Work Shirts in Men’s sizing.

Our Carhartt reps sent over some valuable information on the new products and by the end of this post you will be an expert on the Carhartt Twill Workwear.

Fabric: The 5.5 oz. fabric consists of 65% polyester, 35% cotton twill blend and is made with finer yarn and better fabric making it up to 20% stronger that most competitors 5 oz. twill. Carhartt’s fabric offers excellent color retention and minimal shrinkage after washing. Like the Twill Work Pants, the Carhartt Twill Work Shirt is also equipped with repel and release and wrinkle-release fabric treatment for easier stain removal.

Construction: Pockets, collar, shoulders and plackets are top-stitched for greater strength and better durability (they also lay smoother and look nicer after washing). A banded collar provides added comfort and the extended sleeve placket with buttons creates an adjustable fit and makes it easier to roll the sleeves. Carhartt made the bottom a square cut to keep it tucked into the pants better. Storage in the Twill Work Shirt consists of two chest pockets with mitered flaps and button closures.

*Dyed to match buttons keep this shirt looking sharp and a low-placed subtle logo allows more space for company logos.

Fabric: Durable Wrinkle-resistant 8.5 oz. fabric made with a 65% polyester, 35% cotton twill blend. While most brands have a stain release treatment, the Carhartt Twill fabric features repel and release treatment which makes for easy clean up when it comes to stains. Wash after wash, the Carhartt Twill fabric displays excellent color retention, minimal shrinkage and the permanent crease remains.

Fit: The Carhartt Twill Pant sits slightly below natural waist and has an anti-roll, jean style waistband. The lower-rise and relaxed fit through the seat and thigh allows for more comfort and range of motion with less bulk.

Construction: You will find Carhartt’s emphasis on quality construction hard to beat with durable single and triple stitched seams that are less likely to come apart or rip. The #4.5 zipper has been upgraded to a more durable #5 and an extra stitch on the fly construction provides a longer lifespan. The belt loops are wide and tall to better accommodate for a work belt. The front post closure is more rugged and longer-lasting compared to a sewn-on button.

I'll Bet you didn't know Carahrtt was a movie star. In fact Carhartt has starred in many movies including co-staring in “Brothers” with Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal

In my opinion Carhartt’s breakout role was in the 1993 flick “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” Starring Johnny Depp. Carhartt was really able to get out of the typecasting and into a role in which it really felt comfrotable leading to a really stunning perfomrance.

Since then Carhartt has landed many acting jobs including supporting roles in “Armageddon”, “Into the Wild” and “Jurassic Park”, where Carhartt was robbed of an Oscar nomination.

Carhartt has also stolen the screen in many primetime television spots as well. You can see Carhartt front and center on the hit series “The Deadliest Catch” as well as a cameo in “Desperate Housewives.”
